At the turn of the century, Weyerhaeuser became one of the first lumber companies to push into the Pacific Northwest. At the time, it was a bold move. It was not really until the completion of the Panama Canal in 1913 that lumbermen in the Northwest successfully tapped into a Pacific-based market.
