Poor Man's Candidate

“The poor man’s candidate.” After muckrakers helped turn bankers, railroad tycoons, and other businessmen into the target of widespread public revulsion, Schiff was depicted, together with J. Pierpont Morgan, John Jacob Astor, John D. Rockefeller, and Edward H. Harriman, in various cartoons that mocked wealthy supporters of political candidates. Illustrated in Puck, volume 56, no. 1437 (September 14, 1904), centerfold.
