Anheuser-Busch Brewing Association Cooper Shop, ca. late 1890s

The Anheuser-Busch Brewing Association Cooper Shop, c. late 1890s. The building is labeled “Cooper Shop” and is dated 1890. The establishment of this cooper shop, which manufactured the wooden barrels in which Busch’s beer was aged and stored, is just one example of the vertical integration that helped make his company so successful. Busch also founded the Adolphus Busch Glass Manufacturing Company to make the bottles that he needed to ship to distant markets.
