Shubert, Sam S., n.d.

Sam was the first Shubert in the theatrical business. At fifteen he obtained money from merchants in his hometown of Syracuse, NY, to buy the national tour of a popular show. He supervised the first big expansion of theatres and attractions opposed to Syndicate domination. He died in a train crash in 1905; his brothers Lee and J.J. carried on the family business and built it into a huge empire.
