von Roeder, Rosalie Portrait, n.d.

Kleberg’s mother, Rosalie von Roeder, was born in 1813 in Vörden, Westphalia, into a family of the Prussian minor nobility. While living in Paderborn, she met the young jurist Robert Justus Kleberg I. The two married on September 31, 1834. They set sail for Texas the very same day, bringing Rosalie’s parents with them. The young couple settled in Texas and raised eight children, one of whom, Robert Kleberg II, eventually took over as manager of the historic King Ranch.
