Marcus Spiegel Portrait

As a young man, Marcus Spiegel (1829-64) fought in the Revolution of 1848 in the German states. After immigrating to America, he fought in the U.S. Civil War on the side of the Union. He was promoted to the rank of colonel, and died on May 4, 1864, in a Confederate attack at Snaggy Point, Louisiana
