Wald, Lillian, n.d.

Lillian Wald (1867-1940) was born into a German-Jewish family in Cincinnati. After graduating from nursing school in New York City, she began to care for poor Lower East Side residents as a visiting nurse. In 1893, she founded the Henry Street Settlement, a home for health, social, and welfare services. The endeavor was financed by German-Jewish businessman Jacob Schiff.
