Davenport Malting Company, Davenport, Iowa, ca. 1895

This photo by H.D. Reed shows seven men standing in front of the Davenport Malting Company. In 1894, Oscar Koehler oversaw the merger of five Davenport breweries – Koehler & Lange (also known as the Arsenal Brewery), the City Brewery, the Eagle Brewery, the Lehrkind Brewery, and the Black Hawk Breweries – into a single firm, the Davenport Malting Company, of which he became president. The photograph, which dates from ca. 1895, was taken shortly after the consolidation.
