Ringling, Alfred portrait

Once the circus was established, Alfred (Alf) Ringling (1863-1919) was largely responsible for writing advertising copy and directing publicity for the show. Over the years, Alf developed a reputation as the family historian and raconteur. In 1900, he published a colorful family history, Life Story of the Ringling Brothers, in which this photograph appeared. From: Alfred Ringling, Life Story of the Ringling Brothers. Chicago, IL: R.R.
