Cloak Makers’ Strike, New York City, May 1, 1916

This photograph shows cloak makers striking in New York City on May 1, 1916 (May Day). Financier Jacob Schiff must have supported the strikers’ goals, since one of their signs reads: “Such manufacturers who refuse to discuss peace are not the fit heads for so important an industry. Jacob H. Schiff.”
