Frederick Weyerhaeuser, an émigré from Nieder-Saulheim in Rhenish Hesse (today part of Rhineland-Pfalz), founded the firm in 1900. Today, the company, which controls over six million acres of timberland, is the world’s largest manufacturer of wood and cellulose fibers products, including paper.
