Police Photograph of Edmund Resch, 1917


In 1917, Australian police arrested German-born brewer Edmund Resch and took him into custody as an enemy alien. Resch, then seventy-one years of age, was taken to the Holsworthy Internment Camp. Under Australia’s War Precautions Act of 1914, citizens of enemy countries could be interned for the duration of World War I.
