Clinkscale Online is a comprehensive research database dedicated to the worldwide cataloging of historic pianos from before 1860. The database has information about nearly 7000 historic pianos, and allows users to easily submit information on pianos not yet included, or corrections for existing data. Started in 1987 by Martha Novak Clinkscale, the database formed the basis of her two books Makers of the Piano 1700-1820 and Makers of the Piano 1820-1860. This website continues her work by offering visitors an opportunity to search the now much expanded database, and contribute to its completeness and accuracy.
This project is sponsored by the Transatlantic Program of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany through funds of the European Recovery Program (ERP) of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.
