At an event hosted by George Mason’s Institute for Immigration Research, Uwe Spiekermann presented the GHI’s online project: Immigrant Entrepreneurship: German-American Business Biographies, 1720 to the Present. As one of the general editors, he began his talk with a brief overview of the research agenda for the project in addition to providing a synopsis of results from the last two years. Moving beyond the mechanics of such a large online project, Spiekermann revealed the reasons for choosing German-Americans as the research focus in the first place and pled for the integration of historical perspectives into current immigration research. The presentation was followed by a lively discussion. Jessica Csoma, project manager for Immigrant Entrepreneurship, and project researchers, Atiba Pertilla and Benjamin Schwantes joined in the discussion following the presentation to help address the questions from the GMU faculty members and students.
