Victor G. Bloede, U.S. Patent for an Improved Mucilaginous Compound. Letters Patent No. 61,991, dated February 12, 1867. This patent, Bloede’s first, was granted when he was just seventeen years old. It pertained to the production of a white gum, or glue, from wheat starch by treating the starch with nitric and hydrochloric acids.
