As general manager and resident director of HAPAG’s American operations, Boas was responsible for the Hamburg-American Line Terminal and Navigation Company, which owned several piers in Hoboken, New Jersey. In 1911, Boas and other steamship executives put in a request with local authorities for better pier facilities. This graphic from the New York Herald (June 24, 1911) features a portrait of Boas along with comparative information on river widths.
