Map of Carl Hilmar Guenther's mill and home on Live Oak Creek near its confluence with the Pedernales River in Gillespie County
In 1853, Carl Hilmar Guenther, in response to questions from his family about the people and environs of Fredericksburg, Texas, drew a map showing his mill and home on Live Oak Creek near its confluence with the Pedernales River in Gillespie County. Most of his neighbors were from the German lands, including his wife's family, the Pape's, whose farm is shown across the creek near Guenther's mill dam.
