Letter from Bertha Cone to Bernard Cone

It is difficult to reconstruct some aspects of the history of the Cone brothers’ business. Likewise, information about their private lives, and about their relationship with each other, is hard to come by. The brothers were extremely private, and little of their correspondence survives. In 1940, seven years before her death, Bertha Cone wrote a letter to Moses and Ceasar’s younger brother Bernard. In the letter, she explained her intention to destroy all of Moses’ letters and papers out of respect for his privacy.
