Advertisements for St. Louis breweries in the local German-language newspaper
A page of advertisements from the May 2, 1880, issue of St. Louis’s German-language Anzeiger des Westens (Gazette of the West). The issue was published the day Eberhard Anheuser died. It contains numerous advertisements from local breweries but not one from Anheuser-Busch. A-B’s lack of advertising highlights Anheuser’s “old school” attitude about not spending money on print advertisements, but rather letting positive publicity in newspapers advertise his product for him at no cost.
