Advertisement placed by restaurateur Tony Faust announcing Anheuser-Busch bock beer
Advertisement placed by restaurateur Tony Faust in a Saturday issue of the St. Louis Post Dispatch from April 1881 announcing that he had Anheuser-Busch bock beer on tap for the Easter holiday. Faust’s advertisement made clear that his restaurant and beer garden would be open on Easter Sunday, which challenged local blue laws that banned alcohol sales on Sunday. During Anheuser’s lifetime and for a few years after his death, the brewery placed few advertisements in newspapers and the only direct commercial advertisements for Anheuser-Busch beer that appeared in print were the result of Faust’s advertising. “Bock Beer at Faust's” St. Louis Post Dispatch, April 16, 1881, p. 5.
